Three Excellent Finish Basement Designs
Three Excellent Finish Basement Designs
The basement really doesn't need to be the dark and dingy room for storing rubbish, but rather can be transformed into something excellent for the home through some wonderful finish basement designs. These include making the room into a home theater, a bar, a familyroom, an office, and much more. Here are some finish basement designs to give an idea for the room.
The home theater
Surround-sound equipment and big-screen TV's are no longer as expensive as they used to be, and the basement is an ideal room to transform into a movie wonderland.
Most people looking into doing this spend a huge amount of time picking the right sound system and TV, but they don't think too much around the furniture and the room itself. Here are a couple of things to remember:
1)Any furniture needs to accommodate and complement the wiring for the sound system well and make these easier to hide.
2)Make sure you get an adjustable wall-mount for the TV (if you want to mount it on the wall.
3)Make sure there is enough ventilation for the sound-system and equipment. Locking it in a cabinet is usually not a good idea.
4)Make sure the shelves in the room are deep enough to accommodate the equipment. Many people don't think about this.
Musicians looking to create some sort of home-studio for the basement need to also take these kinds of things into consideration. You don't want the room to be a mass of wires.
The bar
Making a basement into a social room of this kind is a wonderful way to make good use of the room. However, when doing this make sure of the following:
1)Anything you buy or build must be able to move in and out of the basement easily. You don't want to sell the home and the buyer doesn't like what you've done, or you want to take everything you've built with you but now can't dissemble it because it won't fit through the door or the stairs!
2)You make the room aesthetically pleasing in terms of the floor and the walls. You don't want plain concrete with amazing decor – it will feel more like inviting your friends over to have a drink in the garage.
3)Make sure that you make sufficient space for a sound system and, as above, any of the furniture you move in needs to hide the wiring well.
4)Make sure the room doesn't get too hot – you don't want your wine or spirits ruined because of too much heat.
The familyroom
Getting some light tiling, or putting in vinyl flooring or even getting a concrete flooring specialist in (there are some amazing things you can do with a concrete floor) will greatly augment the basement into a wonderful room for the family.
Carpeting the room would be even better to make the room cozy and warm, but remember that basements can be prone to moisture. Before going this route, make sure you take care of any moisture problems in the room and you insulate the room well to prevent flooding.
These are just some finish basement designs for transforming this room into a wonderful addition to the home.
